Tool Types

Standard cutters, sometimes called diagonal cutters, have heads with simple geometry: oval or taper. Oval design cutters are stronger; taper designs permit greater access. Standard cutters with full relief have lower profiles than cutters with semi-relief. 80% of all applications for precision hand cutting tools are best met with a standard cutter.

Most precision hand cutting tools have cutting edges at a 15 to 20 degree angle so that there is clearance for the operator’s fingers on the handles. However a much greater angle may be desired when access to the object being cut is very limited or when the work area is very crowded. Tronex offers angulated cutters at different angles and with different to meet a wide variety of needs.

Tip cutters are cutting tools with long, narrow jaws that have small, exceptionally sharp edges for cutting at the very tip. All Tronex tip cutters have long jaws for extended reach. Some Tronex tip cutters have a deep relief for a lower profile such as the miniature high relief tip cutter or have ultra fine cutting tips like the sub-miniature tip cutter.

Fine Hard Wire – Class W Cutters

Fine hard wire such as memory wire made from Nitinol can damage standard hardness cutting tools, but is a common material used in medical device manufacturing. Hard wire cutters are specially constructed and furnaced hardened to cut through these wires with a full flush finish. Tronex is the only manufacturer in the world to offer Class W cutters, made from a tungsten alloy to allow precision cutting of hard wire while still being lighter and smaller than the Class T cutters to allow for cutting in confined spaces.

Fine Hard Wire – Class T Cutters

Class T cutters are designed to have a hardness of 79 to 81 HRC at the cutting edges to prevent damage to your cutting tools when cutting thicker hard wire. Made to utilize the intense local hardness of tungsten carbide, Class T cutters are tougher through the jaws and handles than the Class W cutters.

All Tronex plier models share a superior jaw in design and craftmanship, eased inner edges to prevent wire nicking, and the bearing ring joint that is featured with all Tronex precision cutters. With a wide range of jaw shapes and sizes, and options such as a bent nose, or the choice of serrated or smooth jaws, Tronex offers pliers for any application.
